Detailed Agenda
8:00-8:15 – Introduction
8:15 – 9:00 – The Drivers of Change
- What are the drivers that are unique to higher education. Are there
elements unique to large public institutions and another set of drivers
unique to private universities?
- What are the drivers common across all industries?
9:00 – 10:00 – A few specific cases
Shel Waggener – Campus approaches for supporting emerging Net+
services – what are the more successful support models and what models
are showing signs of struggle.
Mairéad Martin - To what extent do our traditional organizational
structures enable us to respond - or not - to emerging information
technology services?
Sharif Nijim – “The Cloud Compromise” – based on experiences at Notre
Dame working with Box, Google and Amazon
10:00-10:30 - Conversation
10:30- 11:00 – Break
11:00 – 11:50 - Point-Counterpoint Discussion Sessions
Subject Area #1
What does the future higher education IT organization look like and how quickly
will the changes occur?
- Position 1 - Everything in higher ed moves very slowly. In 5 years we
might see minor change, but it will be 10 years before any substantial
changes will be realized.
- Position 2 - Buckle your seat belts. We need to change now or risk
becoming irrelevant
Subject Area #2
What are the main drivers causing change?
- Position 1 - Our budgets are decimated and demand is increasing
at an alarming pace. I need to create efficiencies and deal with cost
reductions so I can at least maintain services the university needs.
- Position 2 - Regardless of budget challenges, I need to address new
services to support digital services for teaching and learning, support
mobile devices, build cyberinfrastructure for research and give my
university an edge in things like digital workflows and data analytics.
Subject Area #3 (if needed)
Are you committed to supporting Mobile BYOD or are you thinking about standard
mobile ecosystem for campus?
- Position 1 - Support Mobile BYOD
- Position 2 - Commit to a homogeneous mobile platform
11:50-Noon – Wrap-up
