EDUCAUSE is involved in the following activities related to Emergency Notifications:

Policy Level - I am actively working with ACE, IACLEA, and others to respond to Congressional inquiries on the topics of emergency preparedness planning and procedures and systems for emergency notifications.  We are also encouraging DHS and ED to incorporate campus hazards into their planning for critical infrastructure protection.

The Net@EDU Converged Communications Group has established a wiki on Emergency Notification Systems at http://connect.educause.edu/wiki/Emergency_Notification_Systems  They are actively studying technological solutions and the wiki will be a forum for information sharing.  Additionally, they are planning a session on the topic for the Fall EDUCAUSE Annual Conference

The Security Task Force is studying the policies and procedures that are necessary to support a robust process for emergency notifications.  EDUCAUSE is establishing a resource page on Emergency Notifications where more information will reside.
