Addendum A: CSG Long Workshop: VoIP
             Detailed Agenda

8:00 CSG Long Workshop

   MIT (Dennis Baron)

   SIP Technology Overview ~ 1h55m

SIP has emerged as the open standard for VoIP. But SIP is more
than voice; and VoIP is more than just SIP. A brief overview of
SIP will be presented along with a discussion of why you should be
including SIP in your planning - and why SIP may not be the answer
to all your needs. An overview of the Internet2 SIP.edu project
   will also be presented.

9:55 - 10:05 Break

   I2 (Ben Teitelbaum)

   VoIP Service Opportunities ~ 1h55m

Nearly across-the-board, Internet2 members are deploying or
investigating campus voice over IP (VoIP) services. Typically,
however, these campus VoIP deployments are islands, with voice traffic
gatewayed to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) at the
campus edge. Campuses continue to pay high recurring costs for TDM
voice trunks and, as a community, we are not realizing the potential
of an Internet2-scale VoIP internetwork or of large-scale, end-to-end
   IP, presence-enabled, personal communications.
I will present interim findings of the Internet2 Voice Services
Advisory Committee (VSAC), highlighting four service areas that have
the potential to produce short-term value and savings, while laying
the foundation for post-POTS, advanced personal communications.

12:00 Lunch

1:00 CSG Long Workshop: (continued)

   Michigan: (Andy Palms) ~ 40m

Michigan VoIP implementation to date, experiences from several
pilots, analysis of ROI, thoughts about cell phone/WiFi/WiMax and
   VoIP.

Dartmouth: (Larry Levine, Johnson, Brad Noblet ) ~ 40m

Dartmouth's experience with VoIP with focus on technology, end-user
experience, service cultures, surrounding community reactions with
mention of long-distance strategy, and "economics" of migration to
   VoIP.

Stanford: (Christine Moe / Bruce Vincent) ~ 40m

Decision points for VoIP, criteria for equipment selection and timing,
   roll-out.

3:00- 3:10 Break

   Cornell: (Tom Ball) 40m

Questions surrounding a legacy PBX environment..."what's our plan?",
"when are we going?", "why...why not?." A Cornell view from current
PBX perspective, while considering how and when the IP and wireless
services will play out on our campus.

(All Speakers, Vernon will moderate) ~ 1h10 min?

Panel Discussion - Theme: "Impact of technology, service cultures and
funding models on telecommunication service change in higher education."

5:00 Adjourn
